Youths on an Island…A burden or an opportunity?!

A Brain storming event organized by the San Lawrenz Local Council.

Does living on an island means living in a place with fewer opportunities? This subject was dealt with at a conference held in Cagliari, Sardinia, young people from Gozo, the Balearic Islands, Corsica and Sardinia, collectively debated and shared opinions about the problems and opportunities faced by these youth living in small islands.

Together they discussed ‘creativity’ and identified how policy makers should but implement practices in order to support the creative skills of young people residing in these islands. In a world where globalisation is increasingly gaining priority, most of the islands are losing many inhabitants and are running the risk of losing their identity, this is also very much a threat to our own island.

These young gozitan participants, who were given this opportunity by the San Lawrenz Local Council, are now inviting Gozitans and Maltese interested in this field to share in this experience and the outcome of the Cagliari Conference, in a Sunday tea-time discussion being held at the Kempinski Hotel and Spa, San Lawrenz, on this coming Sunday, the 21st of December, at 3.00pm.

This activity will provide an excellent opportunity for Gozitans to air their views on this topic which is of great interest to Gozo and Malta, being two of the smallest Mediterrenean Islands.
