The Commission for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) has announced the launch of a website to access application forms and information for the new EU Disability Card.

Parliamentary Secretary Anthony Agius Decelis praised the new initiative, which is being piloted in eight EU Member States including Malta.

The aim of the card is to allow people with disabilities travelling to other participating EU Member States to show they have a certified disability status in their home Member State, and to access benefits offered to people with disabilities in each Member State (including their own).

They will also benefit from various discounts in establishments that are associated with CRPD.

The Commissioner for the Rights of Persons with Disability Oliver Scicluna said that this card will facilitate mobility in countries that have joined this scheme and its success will certainly encourage other countries to join.
