The Minister for Environment, Sustainability and Climate Change José Herrera has distributed funds totalling more than €80,000 to nine voluntary environmental organisations, as part of the environmental funding support scheme for voluntary organisations.
In Gozo, the Emergency Response and Rescue Corps benefitted through their project – Eco Rangers.
Through this project the ERRC will hold several intensive clean-ups both on land and at sea around Gozo and Comino.
It will also publish a book for children which will include messages about reducing waste, the adverse effects of waste that ends up in the sea, and environmental conservation.
Minister Herrera explained the first call for applications under this scheme was launched in September 2016.
This scheme was open voluntary non-governmental organisations involved in the field of environmental conservation and promotion.
The Minister wished every success to the organisations in their work and encouraged further environmental organisations to apply for this scheme when it reopened.
