The Gozo Sports Complex was turned into a Carnival Village on Friday morning, when Gozo College Victoria Primary School, with the collaboration of the Cultural Council within the Ministry for Gozo, organised carnival activities for the young students.
Parents and grandparents were invited to join in for the celebrations and encouraged to wear Carnival costumes.
Carnival for the children started off with the morning assembly at the Sports Complex, where the Head of School Mr Lelio Spiteri explained what Carnival was all about.
The Minister for Gozo, Dr Justyne Caruana was present for the event and delivered a message to the children, parents and grandparents present.
The children had a great time during the dance competitions which were held between classes. Then the students visited various areas in the complex with activities for the carnival day event. Some of the grandparents told stories to the children of their experiences of Carnival.
Activities for the children included an art and crafts section, storytelling, body painting, the delicious Carnival Prinjolata, a folklore group from Xaghra with their traditional instruments who demonstrated the ‘Kummitiva’ a Gozitan Carnival dance, and fashion parade organised by same of the students. Outside there were games and a bouncy castle for young children.
