ReLeaf concerned that Medicinal Cannabis remains out of stockReLeaf has expressed concern over the fact that Medicinal Cannabis remains out of stock “only 3 weeks after the Medical Cannabis World Forum.” ReLeaf urged the authorities t”o take note and resolve this situation.”

In a statement, ReLeaf said that it has been informed by several patients with differing ailments, that after being prescribed medical cannabis by their doctor, they have been unable to purchase the medicine as it has been out of stock for the past few weeks.

It added that these patients have been left waiting from one week to another, hoping that their medicine arrives, “with pharmacies scrambling to answer questions they do not have the answer to.”

According to ReLeaf, this then “forces patients to revert to the black market or otherwise have their quality of life compensated due to symptoms resurfacing once the medicine is stopped.”

It also made a point of saying that there is only a small number of pharmacies stocking medical cannabis, which requires patients to travel across the island in order to obtain it, if and when it is available on the market. “This is unfair on patients with limited access, as well as being totally unacceptable,” the pressure group said.

“The idea that a country would legalise medicine, attract millions in investment for the medicine, and then fail to supply its very own citizens with the medicine is totally unacceptable,” stated ReLeaf.

“Up until a few years ago, it was a normality in Malta to have medicines out of stock and the current government had pledged that our society will not encounter the same issue once they are in government,” it added.

“Unfortunately, it seems that when it comes to medical cannabis, reality states otherwise” concluded the pressure group.
