A public lecture is being organised in Gozo on the rights, freedoms and responsibilities towards the environment in the light of Pope Francis’ encyclical on ecology, Laudato Si’.

Owners or Guardians? Moral and Ecological Significance of Laudato Si’ – is being organised by the Interdiocesan Environment Commission.

The discussion will be lead by Prof. José Carlos De Miranda, from the Catholic University of Portugal and the University of Lisbon – Centre of Philosophy.

Prof. De Miranda holds a PhD in theology and philosophy and is a professor at the Portuguese Catholic University in Braga where he taught anthropology, ethics and history of religions.

As a researcher, he currently collaborates with the Centre of Philosophy (University of Lisbon) in the project De Restitutione, coordinating the edition of unpublished Latin manuscripts of the Renaissance masters of the Universities of Coimbra and Évora, in whose theories about dominium he finds valid assumptions for contemporary environmental ethics.

The event is taking place this Saturday, the 16th of February, at the Sacred Heart Seminary in Victoria, Gozo, starting at 9am. The general public is invited to attend.
