A commemorative event in honour of Maestro Joseph Vella, who passed away on the 25th of February last year, was held this morning in the Villa Rundle Gardens Victoria.
The Minister for Gozo Dr Justyne Caruana unveiled a bust in honour of Professor Joseph Vella, which was followed by the laying of wreaths. The bust is the work of Maltese sculptor Joseph Scerri and worked in bronze by Joe Chetcuti.
During the unveiling the La Stella Band, under the direction of Mro Dr. John Galea, played the anthem “Dejjem f’ Qalbna” (Always in our hearts) a composition of Mro Vella.
The ceremony also included a band march by the La Stella Band from the Astra Theatre to the gardens and a programme of speeches, together with excerpts from Mro Vella’s chamber works.
This commemorative event was organised by the Ministry for Gozo with the participation of the La Stella Philharmonic Society.
