As part of its ongoing support towards arts and culture, HSBC is supporting art and design students at MCAST with over 40 specialised publications for the library at the Institute of Art and design in Mosta. This is the second time HSBC is lending its support to MCAST students.

Some 220 students – almost half the institute’s population – make use of the specialised library every day.

“Despite the amount of available digital information, libraries remain as relevant today as ever, particularly for the research of specific and technical information,” said Alex Mizzi, HSBC’s Central Area Director. “As a firm supporter of the arts and education, HSBC believes this collaboration with MCAST is a sound investment not only for the library’s users but also for the future of art and design education in Malta.”

The books have been identified by the Institute to cater for students’ needs, particularly those following new courses in digital media and how to care for art in museums.

“The collaboration between MCAST and the financial sector has been ongoing for many years,” said Prof Maurice Grech, Principal CEO of MCAST. “In fact, next scholastic year the College shall be offering a foundation degree in Financial Markets and Management in collaboration with the Institute of Financial Services and the University of Kent. The donation of this collection of books is yet another confirmation of the trust HSBC places in the College.”

Lawrence Zerafa, MCAST’s general librarian, said, “MCAST is experiencing an explosion of student numbers following art courses and these books, which would be a considerable expense to the Institute, are a great help to both lecturers and students.”
