Kaccaturi San Ubertu (KSU), in a statement this morning said that “the majority of elected MEPs are in favour of hunting and trapping and promised to defending these rights in Brussels.”

The KSU congratulated all the elected candidates, adding that this result is a “clear message to the main political parties and the government to the direction being sought by the majority on hunting and trapping, age-old Maltese traditions, to be defended and protected.”

KSU also thanked all hunters and trappers that “took note of their advice to vote for those candidates that expressed themselves in favour of our pastimes.”

It said that it had lobbied intermittently during this election campaign “to send a clear message so that the candidates elected will defend hunting and trapping at EU level.”

KSU argued that it is a “known fact that several restrictions related to our pastimes result from misinformation that is presented to the European Parliament by those that oppose our practices.”

KSU went on to say that it “looks forward to the elected representatives putting forward arguments and sound proof in order to remove the existing prejudice against Malta.”

KSU concluded by saying that it “offers its assistance and cooperation to the Maltese European Parliament members as well as the major parties and governments to ensure that the requests and rights of Maltese hunters and trappers are appropriately represented.”
