For the third year running – Flames Across the Meadows will be taking place in Kercem, organised by the Kercem Fire Group in collaboration with the Ministry for Gozo and the Kercem Local Council

The announcement was made at a press conference addressed by the Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana, Kercem Mayor Mario Azzopardi and President of the Kercem Fire Group Christian Spiteri.

Dr Caruana remarked that fireworks festivals are not just for fireworks enthusiasts, but are also a good opportunity to serve as a showcase for anyone who has at their heart the traditional Gozitan feast.

“The Ministry for Gozo has a mission to promote the island in its diversity and festivals like this, which are drawn from the traditions of our ancestors, are an ideal example of Gozitan heritage,” she said.

The Gozo Minister concluded by saying that according to the latest statistics from Gozo Channel, the number of visitors crossing to Gozo between January and May registered a continual increase, “which bodes well for the rest of the year.”

Mayor Mario Azzopardi, reiterated the local council’s continued support of the festival. The Mayor went on to praise the ongoing voluntary work undertaken by the Fire Group that ensures the Kercem village name is known nationwide.

The President of the Kercem Fire Group thanked both the Ministry for Gozo and the Local Council for believing in this project.

Mr Spiteri said the Group is working to raise the level of the pyrotechnic displays while still giving priority to the health and safety of fireworks enthusiasts.

Flames Across the Meadows – will be held next Saturday, the 13th of July, starting at 11pm.
