The autumn hunting season opens tomorrow, Sunday, the 1st of September  and will remain open until 31st January 2020 – both days included.

Hunting is permitted from two hours before sunrise until two hours after sunset, except for Sundays and Public Holidays, when it is until 1pm in the afternoon.

Other restrictions are from the 15th of September until the 7th of October – both days included, when hunting must stop at 7pm, except as above for Sundays and Public Holidays.

Hunting is permitted for 40 species from land and 12 species at sea. Of these, the Turtle Dove can only be hunted between the 1st and 30th of September. The overall bag limit for Turtle Dove is 7,000. The hunting season for wild rabbits is open until the 31st of December.

Parliamentary Secretary for Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights Clint Camilleri, in a statement, insisted that the government will not tolerate any abuse. He said that as always the season will be strictly monitored by the police, while calling for hunters to obey the law.

He said that hunters must report their game to the WBRU via SMS on 79398550, texting number of each species as well as the area they were hunting at the time. Calls to this number are not accepted, The Parliamentary Secretary said.
