British man drowns after getting into difficulty swimming at Ramla

A British man drowned at Ramla Bay, Gozo this afternoon, after finding himself in difficulty while swimming in the Bay. Another British man swimming with him also had to be rescued.
Police said that they were called to the incident at 2.30pm this afternoon. The two men aged 50 and 51-years-old respectively, were assisted at the scene by lifeguards of the ERRC and a medical team. Sadly the 50-year-old was certified to have died at the scene.
The 51-year-old was taken to Gozo General Hospital for medical treatment, his condition is as yet unknown.
A Magisterial Inquiry has been started and Police investigations are still ongoing.
According to the ERRC, double-red flags had been raised by its members, indicating the sea was dangerous for swimming.
