The Nationalist Party, in a statement today, has criticised the “government led process” for selecting a fast ferry service operator between Malta and Gozo.

“The news that the selection process was annulled by the Public Contracts Review Board because of a number of irregularities, is nothing more than a demonstration of Gozo Channel management’s lack of competence and great disrespect to the public and in particular to its people,” the PN said.

The Opposition said that it had expected a much more serious selection process, with precise criteria for which the selected operator meets. This would lead an efficient and safe fast ferry service.

The PN said that a fast ferry was a pledge of the Labour Party since the 2013 election, “but despite the fact that it has been in Government for six years, they have failed to fulfil this, as well a list of other promises related to the island’ connectivity.”
