During July, an estimated at 305,588 inbound visitors arrived on the Maltese Island, the National Statistics Office said that this was an increase of 5.4% when compared to last year.

Of these, 275,667 were for holidays, while a further 12,309 were made by those travelling for business.

The NSO noted that inbound tourists from Non-EU countries went up by 9.9% when compared to July last year.

The total number of nights spent went up by 1.6% when compared to July 2018, surpassing 2.4 million nights. The largest share of guest nights (48.2%) was spent in collective accommodation establishments, the NSO said.

Total tourist expenditure was estimated at €285.0 million, this was an increase of 1.8% over last year.

Inbound tourist trips for the first seven months of this year amounted to 1,512,388 an increase of 4.2% over 2018. Total nights spent by inbound tourists went up by 2.2%, reaching almost 10.3 million nights.

Total tourism expenditure during this same period was estimated at almost €1.2 billion, the NSO said that this was 4.3% higher than that recorded for 2018. Total expenditure per capita stood at €773, at par with 2018.
