An Open Day within the framework of the Interreg MED project MAESTRALE, is being organised by MIEMA (Malta Intelligent Energy Management Agency).

The event will be aimed at presenting to the wider public the results of project activities and its taking place on Friday, the 20th of September, at the premises of AquaBioTech Group in Mosta (Central Complex, Naggar Street, Targa Gap), starting at 4pm.

MAESTRALE is a 3-years’ interregional cooperation project funded under the Interreg MED Programme, Priority Axis 1 “Promoting Mediterranean innovation capacities to develop smart and sustainable growth”, Specific Objective 1.1 “To increase transnational activity of innovative clusters and networks of key sectors of the MED area.”

MIEMA said that, coordinated by the University of Siena (Italy) and involving ten organisations from eight different EU countries, MAESTRALE was started in 2016 with the purpose to lay the basis for a Marine Energy Deployment Strategy in the Mediterranean basin.

This would be through the mobilisation of relevant stakeholders at transnational, national and local level, the sharing of knowledge, and the identification and feasibility assessment of two pilot projects for marine renewable energy systems in each participating country.

In view of the project conclusion, scheduled for November this year, the Open Day will be the occasion to introduce the two pilot projects selected for Malta – one for the exploitation of marine thermal energy for heating and cooling, one for the production of biofuels from algae – and to trigger an open discussion around their feasibility in the medium and long term.

On the same day and location, a training session on Blue Entrepreneurship (starting at 9:00am) will provide insights on how to design, evaluate and assess impacts of Blue Energy installations. It will be followed by the last meeting of the Regional Blue Energy Lab.
