A new office for community officers working in Gozo and a high-level tribunal for the Gozitan region have been inaugurated in Gharb.

The Government has said that this means for the first time, community officers in Gozo now have an office from where they can operate, enabling them to work more comfortably and operate more professionally.

The previous tribunal, which was situated in Xewkija, was below standard, the Government said, and a need for a new tribunal was felt.

Speaking during the inauguration event at Gharb Council, Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana said that thanks to the newly inaugurated and modern offices in Gozo, the function of the Tribunal Office will be exercised more efficiently.

She added that this is a step in the right direction and is in line with the Ministry for Gozo’s vision, that to instigate excellence in all aspects.Community Office and high-level tribunal for Gozitan region inauguratedDr Caruana highlighted the fact that “community officers must shoulder their responsibilities and abide by their duties – such responsibilities which will now be better served.”

Parliamentary Secretary for Local Government and Communities Silvio Parnis, said that these changes continue to show that this government is truly committed to improving both the LESA agency and the working conditions of the community officers.

He also said that this week the community officers’ fleet for Malta and Gozo was upgraded with 20 new motorcycles – including protective clothing – and 6 new vehicles.

Parliamentary Secretary Parnis concluded by saying that “the main aim of these changes is to lead to more order, discipline, and serious enforcement.”
