Opposition spokesperson for Gozo and Constitutional Reform Chris Said, has said that the Government is not carrying out its promise on jobs for Gozitans in Gozo

In a statement, he said that the Government had recently published statistics which show that for the year 2018, 3,662 Gozitans “had to resort to work in Malta,” meaning that one in five Gozitan workers, were working in Malta.

He added that “for Gozo and the Opposition Party these figures are of concern because they are high and not going down. They are also a concern because they show that the Labour Government is failing in its promise to Gozo.”

Chris Said went on to say that “the government figures refrain from explaining other factors of relevance to employment in Gozo, which in the view of the Opposition exacerbates the situation.”

“The Government has a wonderful opportunity to now fulfil the promise made to Gozo for work for Gozitans in Gozo with the budget for 2020,” said Dr Said. “For Gozo requires necessary incentives and concrete proposals to stimulate further investment of more substance which then translates to the creation of employment on the island.”

Chris said concluded by saying that this is the message that the Nationalist Opposition has sent to the Government, not least in the Pre Budget Document presented by PN.
