Your Mental Health at the Place of Work – was the theme of the annual conference organised by the Mental Health Association Gozo.

The Minister for Gozo Justyne Caruana in her address, said that according to a study conducted by the Commissioner for Mental Health, the incidence of mental health problems in Gozo is more acute and hence the need to talk about this challenge and provide solutions.

Dr Caruana said that the Ministry for Gozo is determined to give all possible help to address this challenge. The work of the Ministry for Gozo is actually spread over several areas, she said.

The Minister explained that first and foremost are awareness campaigns, even by messages on prominent roundabouts across Gozo, and this is together with various initiatives and awareness campaigns made, and being made in schools and other locations with the Commissioner for Mental Health.

Second, she said, is work to strengthen services available and then the Ministry for Gozo project for a house in the community of Gharb that will be used by the Mental Health Association Gozo to offer various services within the community.

Third, are the initiatives directly linked to the theme of mental health at the workplace and then the welfare sessions that the Ministry for Gozo is offering its employees in collaboration with Sir Michelangelo Refalo Sixth Form.

Dr Caruana said that these sessions are aimed to provide training on skills needed to protect and strengthen mental health at the workplace.

The Minister for Gozo thanked the Mental Health Association Gozo and all professionals and volunteers that work and provide support in this area.
