The Planning Commission’s refusal of an application for a building on ODZ untouched, pristine area outside Qala, has been welcomed by the Qala Local Council.

In a statement, the Council said that the application was for “a building with a skylight and a parapet was proposed on the site of a pile of stones and was visible even from Comino.”Following representations by Qala Mayor Paul Buttigieg, through lawyer Dr Claire Bonello, the Planning Commission turned down the application.It was stated that, the proposed application “ran counter to the Rural Policy and Design Guidance which seeks to protect the character, scenic and ecological value of rural areas and the Strategic plan for the Environment and Development which only allows for rural development which is legitimate or necessary.”

The Qala Local Council reiterated that it “remains resolute in warding of threats to the natural environment and the community.”
