Minister for Gozo, Justyne Caruana, has launched a scheme for Tree Planting in Gozo, for the distribution of free indigenous Maltese trees and bushes, as part of the new budget measures for Greening Gozo.

Dr Caruana also officially opened il-Mixta tad-Dawwara garden to the public after being abandoned for several years.

The Minister said that the garden had long been abandoned and it was her wish that this site be rehabilitated, conserved and enjoyed by everyone.

She also said that this was done to ensure accessibility, with ramps on the walkways for people who use a wheelchair or pushchairs.

Director of Rural Gozo, Mr Neville Mercieca said the Greening Gozo scheme will further promote the planting of native trees by the public, helping to maintain the important concept that Gozo remains a very green island.
