Individuals are being invited to participate in an 8-week free online course that will focus on the Advanced spreadsheets curriculum in preparation for the ECDL Advanced Excel qualification.
Ms Elaine Bonnici is a student reading for a Master’s degree in Education at the University of Malta. As part of this course, she said that she is conducting a research study entitled The Effectiveness of an ECDL Technology-Mediated Course for Adult Learners: A Case Study.
In the course of her research, Ms Bonnici said that she will be exploring a self-regulated technology-mediated course, which she is designing and developing herself.
Throughout this 8-week course, participants will be encouraged to take part in discussions that are initiated by Ms Bonnici or by other students; complete small weekly tasks and submit them for correction; and seek assistance and support when encountering difficulties.
When the lessons finish, participants will be invited to sit for a one-hour test, which will be in English; complete a post-course self-evaluation form of not more than 15 questions; and participate in a focus group which will be audio recorded.
The test, self- evaluation form and focus group will all be held on the same day in a span of 2 hours at various local councils in the last week of February 2020.
Participants will be able to select one of the following local councils: Birkirkara, Kalkara, Msida, Mtarfa, Naxxar, Rabat Malta, Safi and Victoria. Ms Bonnici said that participants will be asked to use their own laptop for the test if selecting Rabat Malta, Safi or Victoria, Gozo, local councils.
