A film set in Qala, created, produced and directed by renowned Maltese film maker, Mark Doneo, recently participated in the 15th Anniversary European Union Film Festival of Toronto.

The Weeping House of Qala – which was aired at The Royal Theatre on College Street in Toronto, was the first ever drama/horror film to participate in this prestigious Film Festival, where it received excellent reviews from the audience.

The film is set in the village of Qala in Gozo, where Emily Edevane was abandoned, along with her three small children, by her husband. No one seems to have heard of them since.

Four decades later, a Maltese documentary crew agrees to spend a day at the now desolate and decaying mansion, hoping to find out what became of the family.

The film shoot takes a turn for the nightmarish when the crew encounters strange phenomena and dark forces in the house that they can’t explain.

The Weeping house of Qala stars Lawrence Buontempo, Louise Doneo, Mark Doneo, Lindsey Brincau, Ryan Paul Mercieca and Darien Doneo.

On Friday, Mark Doneo paid a courtesy visit to the Minister for Foreign Affairs Carmelo Abela, during which they discussed the film’s participation in this year’s European Film Festival.
