Malta has its first case of Coronavirus, a 12-year old Italian girl who had been in self-quarantine along with her family since they returned from a holiday in Trentino, Italy earlier this month, flying from Rome.
The Government on Saturday, said the girl had been displaying symptoms of the virus, and was tested on Friday after her family contacted authorities, with the result coming back as positive on Saturday morning.
The, girl, her sister and parents are all at Mater Dei Hospital in isolation. The Government added that there is no cause for alarm, as this first case was detected early and contact by the family with other people had been “minimal.”
The authorities, the Government said, are currently going through the process of contacting people who may have been in contact with the family during the previous weeks.
The Government has a dedicate website with constant updates on Covid-19 which can be found by clicking here.
There is also a new Covid-19 helpline – 111. The Government has asked that the public please avoid calling the 112 number and to also avoid visiting GP clinics, Health Centres or Emergency Departments.
Globally, the virus has infected more than 100,00 people and cost the lives of almost 3,500.
