In an update on Tuesday about the fourth Coronavirus case, the Superintendent of Public Health Charmaine Gauci, said that the man, a 49-year old foreign national, had travelled to Treviso, Italy on the 23rd of February, moved on to Alto Adige, and returned to Malta on the 27th of February.

She said that the man did not go in to self-quarantine until two days after he returned from the trip. Gauci went on to say that he then developed a fever on the 5th of March, and contacted Health Authorities on Monday.

The man tested positive for the virus, he is in a good condition and in isolation at Mater Dei Hospital, Gauci added.

The man’s partner and child are also in isolation at the hospital, though showing no symptoms. They have been tested for the virus and Health Authorities will know the results later.

Gauci explained that the the risk of contagion is minimal as the man was not attending work at the time he developed the symptoms. Also the man’s partner had was not going to work and their daughter was not attending school.
