The JP2 Foundation of Gozo, recently organised a penitential service at Sannat Parish Church with the participation of the University of Malta Junior College Youth Ensemble under the direction of Mro Manoel Pirotta

Rev Fr Michael Curmi Parish Archpriest delivered a welcome speech which portrayed of a strong message for the period of Lent.

Several people from the community of Sannat, read poems contemplating the Five Fridays of Lent with the following dedication; Vero Volto – (the Holy Face of Christ) the Ecce Homo – (Here is the Man) the Redemptor Noster – (the Redeemer) the Mater Dolorosa – (Our Lady of Sorrows) the Cricifixus – (the Crucifix) and the Eucharist.

The young musicians played several music pieces which included Des Sauvages, 1V Minuet ta’ Johann Scherer, Sonata in G Minor ta’ Benedetto Marcello, Kif qatt Nista’, Trio in E Minor, Jekk qatt ma Hassejt, Turcz ta’ J.B. Lully, Intermezzo ta’ George Bizet, Gymnopedie ta’ Erik Satie, O Gesu’ la titlaqnix, Quddiem Altarek and Nadurawk Ja Hobz tas-Sema.

The Vicar General for the Diocese of Gozo Mons Tarcisio Camilleri delivered the closing speech urging everyone to hold Lent as a time of penance, forgiveness and sacrifice.

The service, which was also attended by members of the Gozo Retired Teachers Association, was held with the the full collaboration of the Parish and Sannat Local Council.

The JP” Foundation explained that the service took place as part of activities in preparation for the 100th anniversary of the birth of Pope John Paul II, as well as the 30th anniversary of his visit to the Maltese Islands.
