Following a meeting with the Cabinet on Tuesday, Prime Minister Robert Abela has announced further measures to try an halt the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

The Prime Minister stressed at the press conference that there is “no need for alarm and panic.”

He said of the said that the measures will be for an indefinite period and include:

The ban of mass events with 2,000 people or more, unless in open-air. Indoor events with over 750 people have also been halted. Schools to remain open, and medicines, food, drink and merchandise will be brought in by air and sea, this will include the catamaran service.

Only two people will be permitted in with every delivery truck arriving from Italy, and they will be given medical checks.

Anyone arriving from Italy, or have arrived from Italy in the past few days, are being required to self-quarantine for 14 days.

The Prime Minister also announced that a special committee has been appointed of Ministers and professionals that will focus on the economy and tourism of our country “in order to take all necessary measures to counter the impact,” he said. “We have a strong economy to withstand this impact.”
