Coronavirus: We are not seriously protecting Maltese and Gozitan citizens - For.U.M.In a statement, the Association of Anaesthetists of Malta – AAM, have pointed out “some concerns,” as well as highlight to the authorities the “importance of timely and more effective public health measures in order to contain Covid-I9 in Malta.”

The AAM said that it is “concerned that in the case scenario in which a great number of patients require intensive care and ventilation, as we are seeing in Italy, the National Health Service will not cope due to limited resources.”

“As anaesthetists and intensivists we are frontline care providers when Covid patients require intensive care,” the Association said.

It stressed that “anaesthetists have been in the forefront of preparedness for a major surge of ICU patients as well as making sure all the necessary protocols are in place for appropriate management of Covid- I 9 patients requiring surgery.”

The AAM went on to say that it fully supports the Medical Association of Malta in calling for “drastic public health containment measures such as imposing mandatory quarantine for people coming from abroad. stopping flights and banning all mass gatherings.”

It pointed out that, “these measures have already been adopted in other European countries with less reported cases than Malta.”

The AAM concluded by appealing to the general public to “avoid travelling abroad and take containment measures imposed by Public Health authorities very seriously.”
