Earlier today during a screening process at the Gozo Channel terminal in Cirkewwa, a man of foreign nationality was found to have a fever.
The Ministry for Gozo in a statement said that, “although the person in question had been had been asked not to board the vessel he continued to do so. Police were then called to remove the man from the Gozo Channel ferry.”
A special unit started the process of fumigation and disinfecting the passenger terminal, ferry and any cars that had boarded. The person in question was taken away in an ambulance, the Ministry said.
The Ministry for Home Affairs, National Security and Law Enforcement in a separate statement, advised that further checks have been carried out on those individuals who, according to measures announced by the government, should be observing mandatory quarantine.
Two cases were found to be in violation of the quarantine rules, and therefore have been fined €1,000 and must follow quarantine regulations.
It explained that Police officers from the Administrative Law Enforcement Unit, together with officials from the Directorate for Public Health and the Civil Protection Department, have carried out a total of 90 inspections in the first 24 hours.
The Ministry stated that the inspections will continue in the coming hours and days, in both private residences and hotels. Inspections can also be done in places that have already been previously inspected.
The police have reported that persons undergoing an inspection have all been fully cooperative, the Ministry said.
The Minister for Home Byron Camilleri, thanked the police and all the officers, who, he said, “in these crucial times are working closely with the health authorities to help combat the spread of Covid-19.”
The Government reiterated that it will not tolerate “there being any challenges of the law and specified instructions, which are in place to safeguard the health of the Maltese and Gozitan people.”

Was on the 20.30 ferry to Malta yesterday 15.3.2020 on the Greek Ship. I just drove in and out with no checking at all. I think I saw it somewhere that all passengers will be screened. It’s not happening at least on my trip.
