Nine new positive cases of Covid-19 have been recorded in Malta, Supt. of Public Health, Prof Charmaine Gauci, said on Monday.

For the first time this includes locally transmitted cases – three.  One of these is a Gozitan, and Prof. Gauci said that the indications are that the virus had been contracted in Malta.

Prof. Gauci advised that there are now 30 confirmed cases of the virus, with two recovered. All patients are stable and in a good condition.

Local transmission include a 36-year old man. The health care worker had been in contact with a colleague who had recently been abroad.

Another health care worker, was the second case, who, Prof Gauci said, had contracted the virus from a colleague.

The third is female, she may possibly have contracted the virus from an Italian female she shares her residence with, or from another health care worker, who was a previously confirmed Covid-19 case.

The other six cases were imported, Prof Gauci said; a 56-year-old Maltese woman recently returned from the UK; a Spanish teenager, aged 15, stopped at the airport with a group of friends – they are now in quarantine; a Maltese man aged 34, he had been on holiday in Barcelona with someone who had tested positive; a Maltese teenager, aged 19, the young man was among a group that returned from Dublin that had previously tested positive; a 39-year-old from the UK, the man resides in Malta; and an Italian woman, aged 49, she lives in Malta and her husband had just returned from Rome
