Covid-19: Bars, restaurants clubs etc, to close midnight Tuesday, fine increased

In a press conference on Monday afternoon regarding the latest situation on the Covid-19 virus, Prime Minister Robert Abela said that all areas where the public congregate will be closed as from midnight on Tuesday.
This includes, bars, restaurants, clubs, cinemas and gyms etc. He also urged any Maltese that are still overseas to return when possible, and for any tourists on the islands to leave soonest.
He said that take-away establishments will be allowed to continue, includes restaurants that wish to provided take-away and a delivery service.
Services providing food/meals offering tables and chairs will be stopped.
The Prime Minister stated that the €1000 fine currently applicable to those who do not adhere to quarantine regulations, will now be increased to €3,000, which will apply for each breach. Up to date, five had been caught breaking quarantine regulations.
He once again reiterated for everyone to be calm, “the situation is under control and health services are prepared and that health authorities had again confirmed there was no need for a total lockdown.”
Also at the press conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne, stressed how important “social distancing” is, as well as once again urging the elderly to stay indoors whenever possible.
