In the daily update on Monday, Supt. of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, said that 5 new cases of Covid-19 had been registered, 2 were by contracted through local transmission and 3 linked to travelling, one of whom is a patient in Gozo.

All 5 patients are doing well, Prof Gauci said, and contact tracing is being carried out.

The total of cases now stands at 156, with more than 637 swabs taken in the past 24-hours, including at the new hub in Xewkija, Gozo.

Prof Gauci again warned that the public should not become complacent because of the continuing low numbers of new cases – “this is still only the beginning of the curve.”

She explained that 5 patients are in IDU, 4 in the ICU at Mater Dei, with 1 still on a ventilator, while 17 are at St Thomas Hospital, the remainder are isolated at home, with spot checks being carried out.

Prof Gauci reiterated that we should all practice social distancing and appealed for everyone to stay at home when possible.
