Gozo General Hospital has said that it is making 123 beds available for patients for Covid-19 – out of which 13 have been specifically prepared for intensive care.

Furthermore, the hospital said that as part of its Covid-19 preparations hospital staff are “regularly undergoing training on infection control, donning and doffing of personal protective equipment, safety protocols and the various aspects of Covid-19 preparedness.”Gozo Hospital preparations for Covid-19 includes EC135 air ambulance“The management teams at Gozo General and Steward Health Care Malta are working hand-in-hand with the local health authorities to ensure that the island of Gozo is well prepared,” it said.

The hospital went on to say that Steward Malta’s recently acquired air ambulance has “begun serving the Gozitan population and is ready to transfer Covid-19 patients if deemed necessary by the clinical teams involved.”Gozo Hospital preparations for Covid-19 includes EC135 air ambulanceIt explained that the EC135, which can carry one stretcher patient and up to 3 accompanying medical crew members, is a very popular type of air ambulance used around the world.

Gozo General Hospital added that the upgraded air ambulance service will include 2 such helicopters, “with one of them acting as back-up, ready to cover in any eventuality.”
