The Government has said that a second batch of social beneficiary payments was implemented today, as part of its “holistic approach to cushion the adverse effects on employees by Covid-19.”

5,994 applications were received by the Ministry for the Family, Children’s Rights and Social Solidarity, with 51.7% of the applications having been already dealt with. 2,435 applications have been concluded with an allocation of €1,123,011.

Minister Michael Falzon explained how the first payments were followed only six days after the first submissions were received, and 14 days after Prime Minister Robert Abela announced the first social beneficiary measures.

He said that at the moment, the Ministry is working on other applications, which will be deposited in the coming days.

Four social beneficiaries have been announced with response to employers affected by Covid-19. These include; those for parents that must stay at home to take care of their children, those for people with disability, additional benefits for every person that has lost their job, as well as for those who suffer from any medical conditions and are more vulnerable to sustaining adverse health issues.

The Minister went on to thank all the staff that fall within the Ministry, especially the front-liners that are dealing on a daily basis with vulnerable people in need of constant care and attention.

He also said that around 20,000 persons will benefit from state-funded food distribution, and that the government is working on trying to deliver the food in the respective households.

The Minister did not exclude that new beneficiaries may be introduced in the coming days, so as to tackle those employees who till now did not qualify for the mentioned measures.
