8 new Covid-19 cases registered, including 74-year old man from GozoDuring Sunday’s Covid-19 update, Supt of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci said that 8 new cases had been reported in the past 24-hours, these include 1, from Gozo and 2 migrants. The total number of cases now stands at 378.

A 74-year old Gozitan is one of the new cases, he had experience some symptoms. His wife has also had a swab test taken, which has resulted negative, she is now in quarantine.

Prof Gauci said that 1,041 swab tests had been carried out during the past 24-hours, with 17,057 swabs taken in total.

1 of the new cases is related to travelling , a 61-year old Maltese man who returned on a repatriation flight from the UK on the 6th of April. He had already experienced symptoms whilst in the UK, these continued on his return to Malta, Prof Gauci said.

Contact tracing is being carried out as a precaution for passengers on the same flight.

44 patients have recovered in total, as announced by Heath Minister Chris Fearne earlier this morning.

Prof Gauci reiterated her appeal for people to follow the directives as set out by the authorities, particularly to stay at home and only go out for essentials.
