The Gozo Tourism Association has strongly condemned the acts of vandalism carried out repeatedly by “irresponsible individual/s” on trees at Dwejra, Gozo.

In a statement, the GTA said that this is a “clear act of vandalism, tarnishing the natural beauty of one of the Islands’ picturesque rural areas.”

The Association lamented the fact that unknown vandals had attacked and chopped trees embellishing this UNESCO Heritage site of Dwejra during the past days, tarnishing the natural environment

Dwejra is one of the main tourist resorts on Gozo, the Association said, visited by thousands of visitors each year, who enjoy visiting the pristine surroundings of this unique touristic spot.

It went on to say that it is “a great shame that such vandalism exists and is still practiced by very irresponsible persons against society and the environment.”The Gozo Tourism Association deplored such acts of vandalism that in turn, will be damaging Gozo’s touristic offer.

The GTA encouraged the enforcement Authorities to “step up their work towards the protection of such sites and investigate all vandalism,” while it also urged anyone with any related information to contact the police, who are conducting investigations to bring those responsible to justice.

The Gozo Tourism Association concluded by urging the competent Authorities, with the collaboration of the San Lawrenz Local Council, to “safeguard and protect this important tourist spot on Gozo.”
