An appeal is being made to all Gozitans and Maltese by Bishop Giovanni Cefai MSSP of the Missionary Society of St. Paul, to make donations to help the very poor people he lives and works among, in this most difficult time.

The Gozitan Bishop is in charge of the new Territorial Prelature of Santiago Apóstol de Huancané, in Peru.

This is an authentic mission, as Pope Francis recently preached to make “the mission a testamentary one with strong Christian testimony.”

This is exactly what this new Gozitan Bishop is doing when, as a witness of the most authentic Christian, wherein the absence of machinery, Bishop Cefai was at the forefront to unload a truck full of sacks of pasta, rice, oil, and many other essentials items.

Then, with his colleague’s, who are members of the same Society in this Prelature, packed the items in various bags which were then distributed to the many poor people who live in the Mountains of Huancané.

Bishop Cefai said that he is visiting families in his area who are facing a difficult time due to quarantine. Whilst enjoying helping them, the Bishop said that he feels great sadness when he sees them suffering.

He mentioned some of the families he has met, including a mother who is raising five children alone – a family with five children, one of whom is deceased and three other children with special needs. The other child has to support the whole family, while the mother has a medical condition and cannot walk, but spends all day cooking for her family.

Bishop Cefai appealed to Maltese who wish to help them to do so by making a donation for a hamper of €10 to the Missionary Animation Centre, Hamrun, while Gozitans can do so by contacting Fr. Norbert Bonavia, at Dar Stella Maris in Zebbug, Gozo, or directly to BOV Bank
