3 new Covid-19 cases, including Gozitan man who was asymptomaticSpeaking on Friday during an update on the current Covid-19 situation, Supt of Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci said that, 3 new cases had been reported in the past 24-hours, including 1 Gozitan.

1,037 tests were taken, making 40,493 in total. She went on to say that there are 489 cases, 65 are currently active, a further 6 people have recovered and there have been 5 deaths.

Of today’s cases, there is a 34-year old Gozitan male, who was asymptomatic. He had taken a test as part of the exercise by authorities to identify cases in the community. The man had attended work but had not been in contact with anyone there. Pro Gauci said that he is now in isolation, together with anyone else he had been in contact with.

The other 2 are a mother and son, who had been in contact with a known Covid-19 patient, they experienced symptoms on the 5th of May, but were both already in quarantine.

Prof Gauci advised that more than 34,000 people have carried out a self-assessment for Covid-19 on the app and urged the public to make use of it.

She went on to stress that it is very important to find asymptomatic people to be able to control the spread of the virus and once again reminded everyone to stick to the social distancing measures.
