The Mgarr Port Marina project in Gozo is now at an advanced stage and this €6 million project is co-financed by the European Fund for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries and the Ministry for Gozo and is expected to be completed at the beginning of next year, the Ministry for Gozo has said.

Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg and Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri visited the Marina where Infrastructure Malta is implementing the works

“This Government’s commitment is to provide better infrastructure for our country and our people. We want our infrastructure, whether roads, public or maritime, to improve the standard of living of our country while strengthening our touristic product,” said Minister Ian Borg.

He added that “like very worker and every other economic sector, the fisherman and the fishing sector are important to us. With this and other work around the country we are ensuring better facilities for them to carry out the work from which they earn their living.”

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri thanked Infrastructure Malta whose work is leading to the rebuilding of a slipway and quays as well as the cleaning of the port.

This will be complemented by the installation of a number of demountable pontoon systems to better organise the marina, he said.

As part of the Mgarr Port Marina project, 4 new pontoons will be installed. The project will also improve the accessibility and safety of the port while adding new facilities for the removal and separation of fishing-generated waste, the Minister said.

He concluded by saying that “the improvement in organisation for this part of the port will not only help fishermen but will also improve the aesthetic quality of the place.”
