Covid-19 protocols have been set out for catering establishments/restaurants and Minister for Tourism Julia Farrugia Portelli, speaking on Tuesday morning, said that Covid-19 compliant stickers will be issued by the Malta Tourism Authority and is a proof that the catering establishment is compliant with Covid-19 protocols.

The MTA will open a helpline from today – 21692447 – which restaurants who are wanting to open for service from Friday, can call. An inspection will then be carried out and the compliant sticker will be displayed at the front of the establishment.

Customers are advised to eat at the establishments which have these sticker on display.

She added that those establishments who fail to follow these protocols risk losing their license.

The compliant stickers will verify that the establishment has reached the highest levels of cleanliness and safety. Establishment owners may extend opening hours, but must be no later than 11pm. No smoking will be allowed either inside or out.

The authorities advised that this sticker will be removed if in the following audits the establishment is found to be non-compliant.

It went on to explain that the procedures have been formulated bearing the advice made available by the International and Maltese Health Authorities as well as by drawing from best practice from other tourism receiving countries which is being constantly monitored and updated.

The objective of these procedures, the authorities said, “is to make these establishments assume self-responsibility and accountability for the introduction of additional measures aimed at addressing this extraordinary situation in a way which enshrines them in their routine, day to day management and operational practices.”

Enforcement of conditions falls within remit of Malta Tourism Authority and the Health Authorities.
