One of our readers has reported on a new Eco-Gozo Initiative which is understood to be currently undergoing trials in his area.

Apparently all existing street and roadway lighting, if not already close to residences as depicted in our readers photograph, is to be moved close to or fixed upon residential buildings.

As illustrated by our readers photograph, the lights themselves are going to be angled to give the maximum lighting benefit to local residents.

An independent energy analyst estimates that the savings that may be made by local residents could well offset the recent price increases in electricity.

In addition to this, these savings will be made at no extra cost to the government and most importantly will not consume any additional energy.

In fact, as already pointed out, the residents themselves will actually be consuming less energy, with the added bonus of a reduction in their bills.

There has already been a great deal of interest in this initiative throughout Europe and it is anticipated that it may be incorporated in the EU-wide Lirpa Loof project which is in the final stages of development.
