Next Monday, MaltaPost will be participating in a philatelic stamp issue by SEPAC, the Small European Postal Administration Cooperation, themed – Artworks in the National Collection.
The MaltaPost issue features a pair of stamps depicting artworks by Edward Caruana Dingli – one of Malta’s foremost painters of the early 20th century.
The set includes one on the statue of St George slaying the dragon, which was formerly located on the corner of Triq San Gorg in Victoria and is now situated on a garden wall opposite Pompeii church, where it was restored by Wirt Ghawdex in 2014.
Part of the restoration included replacing broken and missing parts and returning it to its original colours (as shown on the new stamp).
The original paintings are exhibited at MUZA, the National Community Art Museum of Malta.
The stamps are printed in sheets of 10 stamps, with each stamp measuring 44mm x 31mm, with a comb perforation of 14.0 x 13.9 and bearing the Maltese Cross watermark.
Sheets measure 185mm x 114mm and were produced by Printex Ltd in the offset process. The issue consists of 500,000 of the €0.30 stamp and 100,000 of the €0.50 stamp.
This philatelic issue will be available from all Post Offices in Malta and Gozo as from next Monday, the 8th of June.
