Superintendent for Public Health Prof Charmaine Gauci, in today’s update has advised that there have been 2 new Covid-19 cases reported in the past 24-hours, with 8 new recoveries.

Prof Gauci said that he number of cases is “stable,” and advised that of the 6 cases since Friday, 3 are related to travel, with a Pakistani family of 3 who live in Malta, including a child 14-months old, who had returned on 2 separate repatriation flights to Malta in May from Frankfurt.

The others are a 77-year old British man who is a patient in Karin Grech, a 26-year old Indian female and a 23-year old Maltese female.

Contact tracing is being carried out.

She explained that staff working at establishments such as bars and restaurants need to wear visors and or face masks, however, customers at these establishments are not obliged to.

Prof Gauci advised that a legal notice is being published today regarding vulnerable people returning to work and being able to now go outside.

There are 94 cases currently active, 562 patients have recovered and there have been 8 deaths. There were 1,030 tests taken in the past 24-hours, with the total so far at 71,723.

Prof Gauci continued by appealing to the public to wear face masks or visors, practice social distancing and hand washing, particularly as further measures are being lifted on Friday.
