The UHM Voice of-the Workers, said in a statement that it has issued a directive to its members who are bus drivers, that if the temperature in the vehicle exceeds the 30°C, they may refuse to drive it.

The union said that is has been complaining for the last three weeks Malta Public Transport about the unbearable heat inside the vehicles because the air conditioners can not be turned on, due to health authority instructions over Covid-19 to MPT.

“Sometimes, the temperature in the vehicle even exceeds 39°C,” the union said. “This situation is a risk to health and safety, not only because of drivers being exposed to such high temperatures for hours, but also for the passengers.

It pointed out that even if the company had opened the hatch on the vehicle, this has little effect and temperatures remained very high.
