Air Malta has pressed ahead with its course of action to terminate the employment of 69 of its pilots, For.U.M said in a statement today.

It added that this is despite the fact that the First Hall of the Civil Court agreed with ALPA’s request for the issue of a Warrant of Prohibitory Injunction to suspend the action.

According to the union, “most pilots have, as of this morning, been barred from obtaining access to their online account with the company and the said demotions have been reflected in the amended rosters which were sent out a couple of hours ago.”

It added that this re-assignment of duties is based on a new list of pilots “arbitrarily chosen by the company.”

For.U.M went on to say that the airline’s chairman, Dr Charles Mangion “assured the ALPA Committee that no terminations with the company were planned as long as meaningful discussions about certain clauses in the Collective Agreement were in progress.”

“It is deplorable to backtrack from such assurances in such delicate negotiations,” the union said.

For.U.M concluded by saying that it will await developments and will act in the interests of employees acceded to by their prerogatives at law.
