Works being carried out at Il-Menqa in Marsalforn, are at an advanced stage – and access will soon be opened to all the restaurants in that area, said Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri.
During a visit to Il-Menqa, he explained that so far all the services that there were related to the first phase are completed, which consisted of changing the drainage system, related communications services, as well as Enemalta services.
A new street lighting system and CCTV cameras has also been installed. A concrete base has been laid over the services.
The Minister for Gozo said that, “the porfido had been laid around the area’s restaurants and once the section in front of the bay is completed there will be full and easy access available for everyone.
The Minister for Gozo added that works on this section of the Masterplan include the paving of Triq il-Port, Triq il-Forn, Triq San Guzepp, Triq ir-Rabat and Misrah Sir Michelangelo Refalo in porfido/lava, the installation of new light fixtures, as well as street furniture which will enhance the area and give it a more contemporary look.
In addition, he said space will be allocated for tables and chairs for the bars, restaurants and other shops.
“Through an investment of around €3,000,000, the Government is acknowledging the efforts undertaken by the private sector to transform Marsalforn into a tourist and entertainment hub,” Minister Camilleri said.
Clint Camilleri stated that “through this intervention, the Ministry for Gozo will stimulate further investments to ensure the competitiveness of the local tourist industry,” which, he pointed out, “accounts for roughly 50% of Gozo’s direct economic output and is responsible for around 20% of jobs created on the island.”
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri concluded by saying that “in line with the Government’s policy to encourage the uptake of cleaner modes of transportation and the pursuance of a healthier lifestyle, the whole promenade will be pedestrianised, with vehicular access permissible only for rendering of service.”

No mention of the breakwater which without it the €3 million projects will be reduced to rubble like what happened already when few years ago this same project was done.
