This year’s Gozo Motocross Championship 2020-fuelledby Enemed was dedicated to all the loyal motocrossers who came through to the end of the season – following Covid19.
The Gozo Motocross Association said that in every sport, especially motocross, giving up is not an issue – and so it is in Gozitan motocross.
The Gozo Motocross Championship 2020 came to an end on Sunday, with riders taking to the track full of enthusiasm and raring to go for the last time this season.
A large crowd gathered at Ta Xhajma Track ready for the start of the races at 5:00pm and they were not disappointed, watching with baited breath as the riders vied with one another to hold onto their placings, or overtake their opponents.
There was an emotional moment when Steve Xuereb hit the record amount of points, as he achieved maximum points in all of the heats throughout the whole championship. He hit the 480 mark and ultimately became Champion in Class A and overall GMC Champion 2020.
Daniel Portelli became Champion in Class B following his 4 point victory over Robert Spiteri, last Sunday, during the semi-finals.
Meanwhile in Class C, last year’s Promising Rider award winner, Isaac Bartolo, was beaten by Sylvan Caruana by 31 points. Caruana is now champion in Class C. Jurgen Attard won Class D with 456 points and thus became champion.
The GMA president Frank Xuereb presented all member riders with branded mugs by Etienne Micallef at the Malta Cadets Corps.
The award “Most promising Rider 2019,” sponsored by Alex Debono at Sports Experience Trophies & Awards, was given to 15-year old Mark Camilleri.
Frank Xuereb also presented the “Frank Bruno Motocross Award,” an original, artistic trophy created by Steve Xuereb, to Anthony Fenech for his dedication and discipline in motocross.
Frank Xuereb and VickyAnn Xuereb where both given tokens of appreciation from the riders themselves for their dedication and hard work towards Motocross in Gozo.
Michael Vonbrockdorf of Throttle & gear Co. Ltd., who sponsored the Finals racing day, presented the trophies to the winners of the day.
Sports Experience Trophies & Awards also sponsored the Champions shield which as of 2019, will hold the names of the four winners of each and every season.
Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri, was present for the event and presented the Champions with four beautiful Victory trophies.
He commended and applauded the GMA’s efforts at bringing forward this incredible sport in Gozo and promised to assist in any way possible to continue making motocross accessible and agreeable to many more adolescents and children who are thinking of taking up the sport.
The Gozo Motocross Association would like to thank its main sponsor Enemed without whom this Championship would not have been possible, as well as several other companies for their support.
The GMC also thanked Alvin Scicluna at CVC Media and John Busuttil from Sport Ghawdex, Liliana Xuereb, “who is always attentive to our photographic needs” and the E.R.R.C. “for being there for us each time.”
Frank Bruno, president of GMA, speaking at the event, promised to continue to work towards the progress of Motocross in Gozo.
The 2020 Finals of the Gozo Motocross Championship-fuelledby Enemed will be featured on Sport Ghawdex on TVM2 soon.
