Minister for Economy, Investment and Small Businesses Silvio Schembri, has given details on the launch of €100 vouchers for the “regeneration of the economy.” He said that around 2000 businesses have already registered interest to receive the vouchers.

Businesses will not be able to give change on the voucher, so it must be spent in full on each transaction with funds added if needed, the Minister said.

He explained that the vouchers are being sent out as of today to some 440,000 residents of Gozo and Malta who was over the age of 16 by the 8th of June this year, with the aim of injecting €44 million in the economy. They will be sent out by registered post and missed deliveries can be collected from the MaltaPost Office. Those living in the same household can sign for others there.

The vouchers are colour coded – 4 red, for hotels, various types of accommodation, restaurants, bars and diving schools.

There will also be 1 blue voucher, which can be redeemed in retail and services, such as hair and beauty salons, retail shops – clothes, footwear, jewellery, shops with domestic items, sports clubs, museums, arts and culture centres, band clubs and others. which had been closed during the Covid-19 pandemic.

They are transferable, so can be given to another person of their choosing to purchase something for them, this would particularly be the case for those who are housebound etc. the Minister said.
