Currently an exhibition entitled ‘RELICS’ is being held at the Auberge d’Italie in Valletta. In this exhibition Gozitan artist Victor Agius is putting on show his latest works, namely a collection of abstracted landscapes. The works exhibited are a manifestation of the artist’s personal interpretation of Maltese and Gozitan scenes in which Agius uses the landscape as an excuse to venture into the abstract.
Victor Agius b. 1982 holds a degree in Art from the University of Malta and has lately exhibited his works at the Bricklane Gallery in London. He has also held personal exhibitions in Florence and Baveno in Italy and later this year he will be participating in the Florence Biennale.
Locally, Agius’s last personal exhibitions were held at the Ministry for Gozo where he exhibited a collection of ceramic sculptures and at ‘Cleland & Souchet’ in Portomaso, where a collection of landscapes were put on show.
From the works exhibited one can notice that Agius who used to give a certain attention to detail is now in the process of abstracting his landscapes even more. The RELICS collection was painted from the visual recollections of his surroundings and in fact this is witnessed in the manner he depicts only what is essentially needed for the viewer to recognize the particular scene.
This exhibition is being held under the patronage of the Salesians of Don Bosco and part of its proceeds will go in aid of St. Patrick’s School in Sliema.
‘RELICS’ was inaugurated by the Hon. Parliamentary Secretary Dr. Mario de Marco and will remain open for public viewing until the 7th of May 2009 from Monday to Friday from 09.00am to 05.00pm. For more information please visit www.victoragius.com or telephone 79594508.
