The National Blood Transfusion Service has warned today that there is an urgent need for all types of blood, especially type O-positive.

The Service thanked the 60 donors who called at the Centre to give blood last Sunday, and emphasised the importance of keeping a good reserve at the Gozo General Hospital Blood Bank.

The Service said that it would once again like to to encourage more Gozitans to make this gesture of altruism for the benefit of the many patients in hospital, or in case of any unexpected emergencies..

The next session is on Tuesday, the 28th of July, at the Blood Donation Centre in Xewkija, Gozo, between 1:00pm and 5:00pm (last registration until 5:00pm).

The donation centre is located at the Xewkija Clinic, in Triq tall- Hamrija, between the Primary School and the Bocci Club.

The Service reminds everyone that it is important to always take your Identity Card, or Driving License or Maltese Passport and to drink plenty of water beforehand. Also, please encourage others to donate if possible.

The Service stressed that due to the Covid-19 situation all necessary measures are being taken to protect anyone who comes to donate blood, as well as the professionals who provide them with a service.

“Blood donors are informed that no swabbing tests are carried out at any stage of the blood donation,” the Service said.
