63 new Covid-19 cases have been recorded in the past 24-hours, with 11 recoveries. Health Authorities said that “today’s cases are still being investigated
It explained that from yesterday’s cases, 10 were linked to the Paceville cluster, 7 were family members of previously known cases, 9 were in direct contact with active cases, 6 were colleagues of previously reported cases, while 4 were imported. This leaves 36 cases without details for.
There were 2,142 swab tests taken, making 156,664 since the start.
As of today’s date, not including today’s new cases, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control has said that for Malta, the 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 is 98.7. It is showing the total number of cases as 1,247.
As an example, Luxembourg is 121.2. They have 7,439 cases, and there have been 123 deaths. Please see below on Prime Minister Abela’s comments regarding Luxembourg.
It noted that the cases reported for Malta do not include the positive migrant cases, who disembarked in Malta and were quarantined upon arrival, this from today, will also be the case for the figures quoted in Malta.
Prime Minister Robert Abela speaking on Party media ONE on Sunday morning, said that Malta has the least infections in the EU and compared Malta to Luxembourg, which he said has “a population of around 600,000, and has 7,405 with 122 deaths.” – Updated figures as at today are shown above.
However, also by comparison, Luxembourg is located in the centre of Europe, surrounded by Belgium, Germany and France, with foreigners counting for almost half of their population, and many travelling from and to the surrounding countries for employment as well as social travel.
He also mentioned that there were discussions on further possible restrictions regarding tourist attractions.
Abela said that tourist attractions such as boat parties and Comino boat trips could not be closed.
He added that legislative action may also be required as social distancing is not being adhered to.
The Prime Minister said that the Maltese Government has “managed to convince the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, that migrants who tested positive for Covid-19 after disembarking in Malta, are no longer included in the total statistics of positive cases.”
A meeting will be taking place later this afternoon between the Prime Minister, the Health Minister and the Superintendent of Public Health to consider further decisions relating to the current situation.
There are now 537 active cases, with 1,306 cases in total. 749 have recovered and there have been 9 deaths.
The authorities are recommending that the public avoid all crowded areas.
Public Health Authorities said that anyone who needs to take a test should call 111 to set an appointment, even if they do not have any symptoms. It is to be noted that due to the large volume of calls, it can take some time to get through.
All swabbing centres are open every day, including the one in Gozo, however appointments must be made on the above number.

Abela said that tourist attractions such as boat parties and Comino boat trips could not be closed.
